Beyond the Binary

BEYOND THE BINARY 🌈

An interactive guidebook on sex, gender, & sexuality geared towards lgbt youth and their parents.

Problem: information or lack there of about gender, sexuality, and sex. Identity, expression, and attraction are confused and twisted on to each other.

Role: Designer & Researcher

Project Scale: August 2018-Ongoing

Tools Used: Illustrator, Sketch, Aftereffects, Ceros, Typeform

Solution: I created an interactive guidebook that gives an sexuality 101. It covers the topics of sexualities, gender, identity & it also talks about sexual education but in a more inclusive way.

Research: Before I started anything i did research on what topics I was going to cover as well as making sure I had the proper content to implement into my project. After doing that I then organized my information architecture to see which topic was going under which category. After that I then started brainstorming design ideas for a mood board from typefaces to use color and even layout.

Production: after doing my research I then began designing my layouts in Adobe Illustrator. During my research I saw alot of UI illustrations and gradients and decided to implement that into my design. All the logos and graphics were created by me and then afterwards they were put into the program ceros to create the animations for them. I used gradients not only because they look pretty but they added a sort of texture without being too noisy or distracting. I designed over 46 pages in the final process, and that’s with taking out a couple pages to meet deadlines. Below is a small sample of the screens that I created for this project.
